Brighter Futures

Operating a community facility, community groups, and activities in Rhyl
  • Social Inclusion

Over 80% of service users have a disability, and 96% are from low income households.

The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund (PWCF) supported Brighter Futures Rhyl with an award from the COVID-19 Recovery Fund – part of our small grants programme – in March 2021. Brighter Futures Rhyl works within the local community to foster healthy lifestyles and sustainable living.

The charity aims to help those who are vulnerable by engaging them in projects. For example, one group of Rhyl residents has worked to build bird feeders and distribute them around the town, whilst another has been working on community allotments.

With support from PWCF, Brighter Futures Rhyl has:

  • Trained 4 people in horticulture
  • Trained 2 people in bicycle maintenance
  • Trained 2 people in sports banking
  • Engaged 16 young people and 12 adults in urban gardening
  • Collaborated with the community to plan a new community fruit and vegetable plot on a small brownfield site.

These activities benefit children aged 6 to 11 and adults aged 18 to 87, helping to develop confidence and engage beneficiaries in new skills. Over 80% of service users have a disability, and 96% are from low income households.
