Curious Pilgrims

Through our work we seek mindful engagement with the arts and the natural world, and to improve awareness and sensitivity to Shetland's land and coastal environments, encouraging people to respect and protect them.

Each contributor came from a different background, with unique experiences and expectations, and distinctive ways of dealing with difficult situations.

The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund (PWCF) supported Curious Pilgrims to create a a participatory arts project – Community Voices – which brought people living on the Shetland Isles together during the pandemic. Submitted contributions range from video recordings, audio recordings, poems, photography and animated illustrations.

The contributions have been compiled into a docufilm below.

Project participants said that being part of Community Voices made them stop and think about the wider implications of the pandemic. Each contributor came from a different background, with unique experiences and expectations, and distinctive ways of dealing with difficult situations.

Through watching the docufilm one can immediately realise how the same event can be lived in such different manners by different people. The project brought into clear focus the importance of human connection and how empowering it can be for people to have the space to express their feelings and thoughts.
