Govan HELP

Govan HELP exists to build the resilience, confidence and self-worth of children and their families through provision of a range of early intervention services. In response to the global pandemic, Govan HELP established the Govan Pantry with support from the Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund (PWCF).

Govan Pantry has distributed over 173,813 portions of meals since it opened. This subsidised community shop allows families to shop smarter and better. Food for the pantry is supplied by Fare Share West of Scotland, and supports a surplus food redistribution model, minimising food waste and promoting a sustainable, dignified approach to food insecurity.

For a weekly membership fee of £2.50, members can choose ten items of food, making an average saving of £15 per shop. So far, Govan Pantry has supported the community to make savings of £212,010 on the cost of food and essential items. The food at the Pantry is diverted from landfill; to date the charity have saved 86.2 tonnes of CO2 by diverting this food.

HRH The Duke of Rothesay visited the Pantry in September 2021, unveiling a plaque to officially open the Pantry and commemorate the charity’s 25th anniversary.
